SADSAC: Maffra - Newry 05 August

A good rollup of 20 riders assembled at the port in fine but breezy conditions. We had some new riders on the day with Gillian and Michael from Traralgon and George from Sale. The ride started with a tailwind run along the river to get the legs warmed up. Once the river was crossed at Davis Bridge the easy riding came to an end as we encountered the fresh Northwesterly wind that was to remain with us until the lunch break.
Despite the challenging conditions only a couple of riders took the Star wagon option on this leg.
The final turn to the lunch stop had us with the wind on our backs and a fast finish for the morning.
The Newry Football ground came complete with adequate seating, quite a luxury. Bridgette had provided us with some lovely cakes for dessert.
Once fully rested it was an easy return to Maffra via the Lower Newry Road. The only small obstacle left was Pine Hill. I think most of the riders gave it a bit of a go as the afternoon leg was otherwise a cruise.
A good number turned up at Latitude Cafe, an option available due to the early hour. Another successful day out.
