Fine weather was on order for the Tramps run to the sea on Sunday. Around 20 riders headed off from the Longford Hall for the only significant climb of the day, the South Gippsland Highway. Once over the climb it was gentle undulations on the run to Stradbroke. Once the turn was made to the east the tailwinds made for easy riding all the way to the sea.
Someone appeared to have put Seaspray into "sleep" mode. I suspect we may have doubled the numbers present in the town over the lunch break. Fortunately the full sun offset the cool breeze to make the lunch stop reasonably comfortable. Some care was required however to keep items on the table. After a quick visit to the beach, to view the hardy souls in the water, it was time to tackle the windswept road home.
The first part of the leg home was rather exposed and the strengthening westerly wind put some pressure on the riders.Once the road turned north and the roadside vegetation increased the effort required dropped off.
The only challenge left on the final stages was the climb over the back of 3GI hill. Once cleared the final descent to the hall was most appreciated. A successful day out on the bike.
